Home Science Tools & Human Anatomy

Wow! I've just got to share this resource with you. :) I recently went crazy ordering catalogs online. The best one I have received is Home Science Tools. Here's where you can get your own free catalog.

After pouring over this catalog, drooling all the way, I have picked our next science unit. We will be covering the human anatomy. Here's my wish list, picked straight from Home Science Tools-

This unique life science course, titled "The Human Body", puts key information to familiar tunes to enhance learning. The 93 pp. textbook covers the major human body systems including skeletal, muscular, nervous, sensory, reproductive, digestive, excretory, circulatory, immune, respiratory and endocrine. Key information from each of the 13 units is captured in one of the songs provided on CD. Also includes a 48 pp. workbook with application questions and an answer key. Plan about 12-14 weeks to complete Volume 3. Grades 5-9.

This laminated, 6-page, foldout study guide summarizes the anatomy of all 11 body systems. All organs, muscles, bones, nerves, etc. are clearly illustrated and identified. Includes detailed sections of the eye, ear, skin, bone, and more. Ideal for review and test preparation. Ages 13 & up.

By Dr. Henry Gray. Over 100 years old, this classic book is still used as a standard text in medical schools. It thoroughly explains the entire anatomy of the human body in detail, using understandable descriptions and 780 illustrations. This book is actually fascinating to read, although due to the scope and high level of detail, we recommend that you use it as a reference book rather than a textbook. This is a quality softcover edition. 1248 pp. Ages 14 & up.

By Fred Stark. A fact-filled coloring book with over 100 adaptations of the illustrations from "Gray's Anatomy". Each illustration includes labels and terminology and a description of body system functions. A good supplement for any junior high level anatomy study. 128 pp. Ages 11-13.

An excellent aid to learning human anatomy! Contains accurate, labeled drawings and detailed descriptions of the body systems and major organs. Text is at a high school level but all ages can color the drawings. Ages 13 & up.

This accurately-molded 16" (42 cm) skeleton offers a unique learning experience. Special features include a moveable jaw, a skull that opens, and arms and legs that not only move, but also are removable for individual study. It is sturdily made of washable, unbreakable PVC plastic. This human skeleton model comes with a stand for convenient viewing and a printed key that identifies over 170 bones and bone features. Ages 13 & up.

Explore the structure of the human brain with this deluxe, hand-painted, fiberglass model. This full life-size human brain model separates into eight pieces to expose all the major parts and sections. A printed key is included which identifies the following 15 brain parts and sections: upper cerebral hemisphere, cerebral cortex, lower cerebral hemisphere, cerebellum, brain stem, medulla oblongata, pons, optic nerve, olfactory tract, corpus collosum, lateral ventricle, hypothalamus, thalamus, midbrain, and fourth ventricle. Approximately 18 cm long x 15.5 cm wide x 16 cm tall. Ages 13 & up.

This 17-piece dissection tool set includes stainless steel forceps, scissors, a scalpel handle, three #22 scalpel blades, curved and straight teasing needles, a medicine dropper, clear plastic ruler, and six T-pins, all in a hard plastic case.

Total cost- $120.70 +S&H (I don't think that's a bad price.)
