I'm not sure exactly what type of snake it was, but my husband believes that it was a corn snake AKA rat snake. (He is judging by the pictures since he was not present.)
Devan found this snake and believed it to be dead. As soon as he discovered the truth, via touching the snake, he ran inside yelling, "Mamma! You're not going to believe this! Get the camera!". Remington was right there with him for the discovery. Thankfully it was not a harmful snake, because it would have surely bitten them both. (Most likely it would have bitten them on their way out the front door. I'll take pics today to explain.)
Oh my! I've rambled on..... :) I was 99% sure it was not harmful.
That's a black rat snake. Definitely non-venomous, and one we'd love to come across. It's in the same genus as the corn snake (aka red rat snake or in Kentucky chicken snake), but is a different species. Great pictures! I curse. This blog will likely contain a sprinkling of colorful words from time to time. Still with me? Alright then, grab a cup of your favorite vice and join me in my ramblings.....

Oh my! That guy looks venomous. Did you find out what he was?
